Over than 66 years of experience and passion, Paolo Crepax is one of the greatest Murano Glass Masters and is now part of the Vetreria Venier team. Today, he is 75 and still works with the enthusiasm and the dedication he had when he was a young apprentice. Paolo Crepax has become a Glass Master when he was 16 and this is an unusual milestone in the history of the Murano glasswork.
He lost is parents when he was very young, infact he started working out of necessity but he discovered a world made by fire, glass and art that would change his life forever. It was 1960 and times were hard. The Glass Masters were very structured, sometimes tough in the way they acted but they helped him in his growth. During his career, Master Crepax saw a lot of changements: from the wood oven to the gass-fired oven and also the materials have changed. For him, the essence of the glass is always i the use of the hands and in the sensibility of the artists.
"When I touch the glass, I feel the same emotion as when I touch a woman". These words pronounced by Master Crepax tell more than a technical description: they show the deep relationship that exists with the glass. A relationship made by sensibility, refiniment and unique passion.
Master Paolo Crepax is specialized in realising hand-blown glass objects, he loves to make vases with simplified lines, which are enriched with delicate colored shades. One of his most fascinating piece of art is a 120cm diameter plate made by 12 different colours.
He's known and appreciated also abroad, especially in the US. Master Crepax considers each of his works part of himself. He did several collaborations with international artists and he is very proud to see his works around the world.
With his heart full of gratitude for a life dedicated to his job, Master Crepax looks at the future with hope. He wants young people to approach to this millenary art, bringing with them curiosity, commitment and passion.
